National First Responders DayImpactLife recognizes the courageous individuals who act quickly to provide aid when an emergency is at hand. Whether as career professionals or volunteers, we salute the firefighters, police, emergency medical technicians (EMT), paramedics, and 911 operators across our service region on National First Responders Day. These dedicated professionals answer the call when a crisis arises, often putting their own lives on the line.

Dr. Daniela HermelinHaving a successful outcome in emergency response often depends on blood that was donated before the emergency takes place. “In our work as a blood provider, we often say it’s the blood that is already ‘on the shelves’ and ready to transfuse that makes the greatest difference for patients in an emergency,” said Dr. Daniela Hermelin, Chief Medical Officer with ImpactLife. “Those who arrive first on the scene of an incident are supported by the volunteer donors who have already made sure blood is available for patient care.” (Learn about our work with blood centers across the country to make sure blood products are always available in a large scale emergency, wherever they might be needed.)

Thank you to our region’s first responders for the skill, courage, and commitment they exhibit in challenging circumstances every day, and thank you also to the volunteers who help save and improve lives across our region as blood donors and volunteers who support our mission.
